Life Hack Amazon's stupid new Streaming music service

I love Spotify, is there any song you cannot get off it? I mean even our youth pastor Nate Grossman just a local geek player has music on Spotify? go figure.

Yeah well Amazon, which I won't say bad things about its cheap shipping and low prices on books and you name it has just started its own "streaming" music service. For we smart shoppers who paid the 79 bucks to become prime members this new service is ours for free. in a very limited choking capacity. Oh you see tons of artists likely every artist out on the main stream but then off their album you get one song. usually the first song and likely one you wouldn't like. I enjoy Michael Buble music (such a softy) and they had a set that I not heard so I click on the album to see that all the songs were restricted to only purchased albums except ones that I didn't like or never heard before.

So what did I do? I copied the song to clipboard went to Spotify and listened to the entire album for free.

I guess we can call this a life Hacker moment?

Free always a cool word when it comes to Computers

In the last year I have forked out way too much money to buy into the cloud. in fact at last count I believe I paid 475 dollars, and you know what? technology moves ahead at an ALARMING rate. prices go down services and applications improve the market becomes more and more competitive and it feels like I am standing in the dust of the rest of you who waited. Like smart people.

Google of course leads in prices. with only 1.99 a month for 100 gigabytes it just makes sense if you love Google like everyone does to stay with them as they centralize all your storage. The one other thing I love about Google is they are updating and improving nearly every week new changes occur I believe that they will be the one milestone of today's generation...

And yet Free is a very attractive word.

Now remember, If you have material that you want to put on someone else's computer have some brains. First off its their computer and if they want to play with what you thought was your stuff then really it was you who plays the fool. as Facebook has already proven that your personal photos might show up being sold to advertisers. this happens. as well DropBox censors and reports, as they ought to, to the US government any materials, photographs etc that they thing might seem dark, nasty, child harmful etc. so no, don't just use the cloud to hide your trash, that's not what its meant for. What it is meant for, mainly is sharing.

I use the cloud 3 ways. 1 is to share photos and documents. I download a photo to my hard drive I upload it to the cloud I get the URL link by right clicking on the photo and then paste it into an email or hundreds of other places and now friends and forums can have access to that material, BTW this works with music and Video up to 5 Gigabytes in some places however be ready to have a smart answer if someone shares this link to the true owners of that video and you are sued for piracy!

The second reason I use the cloud is to sync my stuff. and this is way important for me. I am ridiculous, gone are the days I relied on my one home computer. Why lets see I have 3 active computers at home if you count my lap top I have two tablets and my android that makes six. with the cloud I can upload a tune, and then its instantly shared to all six devices, this is called syncing. of course you have to be smart here too. my tablets only have 32 gigs of space and if you set up syncing that fills up pretty fast. still syncing is wonderful. I can put a bunch of movies into the sync folder then take my laptop on holiday. once in the hotel I open the lap top and the movies are already on the hard drive so there you are. quick and simplified transfer.

The last reason I use the cloud is to archive, not back up but archive. Started with Evernote. which has the ability to clip from the web and save it by date in a huge very long file that NEVER deletes. in effect it archives everything you find interesting. Evernote has evolved. now I can clip only photos or portions of the web page or only articles. this is so handy for me. Now Google as we expected got into the racket. it has the capability to pull from your documents folder any document you wrote and place it into its drive so you have it there for your laptop later or, what if your home PC crashers? its there all safe and sound.

So then finally I bet you want to know the scoop, where do you get good free service.
Well good is relative. first I look for space of course, then I consider the reputation - if the company has only been out for one year I fear that they might go under or change their policies too fast, as Just Cloud did [if you have them I fear for you]. And finally I need to know what kind of interface they have. let me explain and give you a few links.

Space Wise the amazing best has to be the 7 Gigs to .360 TB services.
They are: Copy with 15 Gigs
Google with 15 Gigs
and MEO Cloud. with 16 Gigs up to 32 if you invite friends to enjoy free account.

Of these Three Google Drive is the best, the company is trusted it has many applications to benefit.
Copy is New but tons of people love it. its fast as well. I can sync a 2 gigabyte movie from one PC to the other in less than 5 minutes that's pretty fast
MEO has a lot of people talking, but its a foreign company and foreign governments might have you face changes faster than you like so be on the alert.
The above are the favorites I have found the next set are less desirable though they do have their perks

First with 360GB Called 360CloudDisk or Yunpan a Chinese based gem, This group is very new, started in January 2014. And frankly I cant see any need to have so much space, but its free. This company And MEO are foreign and you will need to be ready to translate page after page to register but I did it and I have it. so its not impossible

IDrive gives 5-10
One Drive gives 7
Yandex gives 10
DropBox (varies from .5 up to what I got at 27.5, using referrals and bonus)

And I found SEVERAL which give tons of space for free which I totally said no to
why? its the last priority INTERFACE.

Most Cloud services are very keen on making actually transferring files from your PC to their cloud a snap. They have you download a client which permits you to place a folder into your PC, all you do is copy and paste the file you want put into the cloud into their folder and without any further thought its transferred.
When I realized that there are archaic idiots who think we would be interested in a cloud that did not have an interface like this I about flipped. Be certain that before you agree to any contract you get a chance to try before you buy and you see if they have a desk tool or desk client or you will not be happy.

The last thing is applications. these are tools that add fun and productivity to your cloud. I wish there was a service which made working all my separate clouds easier. there is SME which I paid for but they don't handle all of the clouds.
I find that DropBox and Google drive have tons of bells and whistles. but I have only been doing the cloud game for 15 months and the game changes so fast. so I don't base my choice of services on their applications that's always changing.

My last suggestion is if you do need dedicated no nonsense cloud sync just use Google, they charge month to month its only 1.99 I have had run ins with them on magazine orders they always refund my money always quick to answer questions best reputation. but yea, sign up for the other services. Google's free service is only 15Gigs if you don't want to pay any more, I say start with Google then "Copy", if you think you need more than 30 easy Gigs refer to the list above. ♥

Mostly thinking about where to put my thoughts.

Shelving our thoughts. Actually it is something I plan to do. I want to do it I anticipate the need. If nobody reads my stuff its okay. I wrote it, I want to reread it again. Its important to me for all sorts of reasons.

Why this is brought up is Facebook
I take a lot of time, sometimes, in writing about and sharing things that I feel are very important to me. Inspirational things, god spoke to me + earth shattering or quiet shuddering things. And I get no likes.

I mean who cares if they like it, I question do they even read it?
Facebook by default now displays the posts they feel are top stories.
means that if nobody has commented on my post they likely wont show it at all on everyone's wall.

In effect then, the universe as interpreted by Facebook, is saying to me that my posts are a waste of time.

That makes me worse than sad. It reflects not on what I do but who I am. Nobody loves me?

That cannot be the truth
But facebook by popularity declares who you are - by what you do not do.

Okay, for example, so you swing and you miss the ball the crowd with their cat calls will declare now you are Gay, you are a Pig, you must be a BASTARD…
Failure = Coward

Who you are = what you failed to do.
By what you failed in their mind to be expected of you?

I like to write. Its what I do and more than this my writing defines who I am and what I discover about myself. But Facebook is all about popularity. I say screw face book. I will find another place to put my material.

New Math

New Math

Where Kilo does not equal ten
(some nerd must have thought that one up).

Well okay you go to Speedtest.net and get great numbers (we hope)
but are you paying attention to the letters after your huge numbers?

When I am hooked into my VPN and check with Speedtest.net I normally get about 8Mb up and around 12Mb down

Now here is where I scratch my chin:
a Mb is not a MB
1 Gigabyte is actually 1024 MB (big B).
1MB is actually 8Mb (Small B)
so interpret that to what you see in your torrent client you see you are getting upload speeds of hopefully 3MB, and upload speeds of around .8MB

one MB is 8 Mb
so .8MB is 6.4Mb that is about half of what speed test said I could get.

a 3MB download which would rock is actually 3 x 8 again or 27Mb
as I generally only see around 12Mb down that means 12/8 or 1.5MB is the best upload speed I generally will see.

Now that being said. how long will it take me to get one GB uploaded so I can start seeing a better ratio? a pretty long time at these speeds (put plug here for seed boxes)

.8MB up on my torrent per second is 288MB an hour, to get me one Gig would take me 3.555 hours.

but, my poor computer really doesn’t get that good of speed all the time and I loose peers because their clients go with faster seed boxes. truth be told use your bonuses. My little 4GB ram computer can handle 40 seeding torrents at a time and I get about one 250 point bonus every other day.

I hope this helps someone. took me some research to figure all this out myself.

If my numbers are messed up and you are a geek or nerd or whatever and can post a rebottle I hold no grudge I am just an old fart myself trying to keep up with all you kids. ha and its always nice to watch good movies for free.

Stupid X%%# Alergies

I hate this. I think I have allergies.
Now I smoked for years. As in about 36 years.
you would think that my smoking thru those years would have triggered some reaction.

However, now as an ex-smoker I am intolerant of smoke, I smell stuff much more acutely and I think that might be the crux.
   And, I now have allergies
My mother had allergies. I seen her go nuts a few times (not manic) but very sick.

Today I woke crying (no I am not depressed). My right eye felt like there was glass in it. OH holy poo! It hurt like the hummer! Saline drops stung - that didn't help. I as well had a very runny nose and of course the eyes watering. so I called into the doc and talked to 3 nurses. They said, to my dismay, I ought to start taking antihistamines; as it was I had 3 different kinds of antihistamines.
It still took 10 hours... to go from crazy in pain (a ten) - down to a low two. My eye is dry and I am annoyed, took a lot of get up and go energy away. but I am okay.

  Stupid allergies!

Today I learned how to send complete twitter messages

How to send complete twitter messages

Twitter started its 140 character only rule due to IOS archaic rules that Texts could only be 140 characters long

well screw you Steve Jobs!*

Clearly textings can be essay length now, and this rule in my opinion is a bunch of hog poo ...well no and yes. I like to skim and scroll, I say shorten the tops of messages perhaps or insist that messages have appropriate titles so I can choose not to read it if I like (like an email) but 140 characters? HELL no
I can't seem to wrap my head around it so what can you do?

Start a blog. start several if you want. call it JeraldPratersTwitterCrap, well put your own name in. then you get a chrome extension either Bitly or HootSuite. you compose your blog message even include photos Videos music, finish it up pretty and then click on the Hootsuite extension and you immediately get a box which will post for you on twitter and facebook if you choose and it will direct others to your blog. so you get the whole message out. I love this way.

There were in the few years past services on the web which were "twittershortening" but it looks like all but a bare few still are in service, so? this is the way for today to go

Yay

If you cant understand what i am saying I might do the search for you in finding an instructional video "how to add a hootsuite extension into your browser" OR "how to start your first Blogger" no prob just give me a shout in the comments below

*there I go speaking ill of the dead again

TIL (today I learned [something at least…])

[first let me bore you with this urge to vent, I gotta write stuff. I am persuaded that this is an activity that is… well its as important to me as sleep. I love to write. I love to read what I wrote and in a tiny prideful way I hope that someone somewhere will read what I said and click like… well, this is not face book but you understand.]

[plus… again in a prideful way. I feel that when I take the time to fashion an essay, it marks my day my year my decade… as significant… have you ever sat down and asked yourself what was it I did last week? and you have no clue? do we get waves of dementia? or did you in fact exist without really making a difference? When I write, especially to Blogger which seems to be the place to make your mark and Google will never delete it… I figure in years to come when I do really get dementia {Hell no!} I can go back and read this stuff. I bet I would get a kick out of it.. so that’s my soap box… onto the topic]

Today I Discovered Khan academy.

Oh I been hearing about it for about a year now, always its given great reviews. I first heard of it on TED which I as well recommend. [Video embedded at end of this post, page down to see it]

Click here to visit [cool site]

But I was on CIG [link above] today and Thomas Frank mentions that Khan is the one link every successful college student ought to have bookmarked. so I clicked it and got an eyeful. really the first page is well laid out. If you don’t want to actually dive into the academy a 2 minute skim of the front page will leave you at least knowing the jest of the site. so give it a try.

In Depth it’s a long list of videos. Elementary School Videos to start. takes you from the very first ideas in say math or Science and walks you thru slowly to review perhaps or actually give you a head start if you were say in elementary school.

What I got into was one of the lines of teaching from Health and Medicine. I seen there was a line which mentioned Diabetes [yay I am type 2 and my sugars now are under 130, trust me this is huge for me] but yeah I only watched the first tape and its easy to understand. I do think this is a nice site

Did I mention its entirely FREE.

The largest part of the offerings is stuff about math, goes from 1st grade up to Linear Algebra and they are adding new courses all the time, I hope they give us stuff about better writing skills and English.

The best RSS reader

Oh okay I spent days, several hours for 3 days hitting my head over and over again trying to find a superior replacement for Google reader.

Now to my sisters who I doubt have any clue what a reader is, along with many others who fall into the trap of facebook's add smashing colorful but useless brain spam just to check up on peoples status… I will explain a few cool things. the reader or the RSS reader is a tool which takes a copy of every new article or photo or video a webpage publishes. so you don’t need to go to that web site to read the new stuff. In a reader you don’t get advertising, at least not the amount you expect from facebook. you just get the meat, plus the way cool thing is it holds that article.
So lets say you like a website. lets use theCoconutMama.com which I really love or loved about 8 months ago and wanted to know everything I could about using cocoanut oil. well momma does put out a lot of information, daily she puts 6 or more articles up. so what am I to do? go to her page every day read the new articles and flip thru the rest until I think I am back up to speed?
with a reader it holds all the updated articles it tells you which ones you haven't read and in its title bar it gives you a snippet of what is under in the article… so you can skip what doesn’t interest you.
here is what I like. in 20 minutes with a reader you can cover up to 20 websites all their articles and not see one advertisement. glory days!
But my fabulous reader, Google Reader, just up and stopped. talk about fists in the air?

Feedly is the name of its replacement. and Feedly is a pretty good reader its fast and mostly free. but, if all you want is the written articles without photos or videos. Feedly is pretty good. fast is a point. click on a link in other readers and its like you have dial up modem it takes for ever just to bring up a link. let alone a whole video. very stupid. but feedly is fast and for the free part its not bad. I give it oh, 7 stars of ten.
why? the design of the page is real hard to get along with for me. first off you might get a photo, always nice. but you only get the top half of the photo. you have to scroll down and then you see the bottom half and have to imagine what the whole looks like. totally dumb surely they have to have some quality control but no they been in business for half a year and cant get their page to fit around simple photos. talk about video? messed up as well. scrolling thru the articles gets them all messed up. I got very mad at Feedly. but it’s a 7 or 8 star still easy to migrate from Google to Feedly in one click so I am not saying don’t but I still was missing how well Google did with videos and graphics
I found in all my funny tries AOL has a reader that was amazing! really amazing I cant start to tell you it was fast it was designed to fetch videos and graphics and I was tickled to migrate my exported file from feedly to AOL… but I give them a 4 stars.
What you say? you loved it but four stars?
yeah, I am as mad as heck at them.. they censor EVERYTHING! like omg in adding a new website, you just click add new site paste the website in and click add. nice right? nope
            "cannot find web site"
            they lie to us!
I can bring up the feed on feedly or any other reader out there. but AOL has a very strict code of what they feel is… well I guess family friendly? if it does not agree with their religious or I assume political bias they wont let you have it on your reader. I guess if you want a site that is much like Net Nanny Yeah then I suppose you ought to start your 4 year old out on AOL perfectly safe for them… but I wont put up with censorship.
Lists of other services. many had bad design most were incredibly slow loading… and then…

first off let me put this in. I went with Hootsuite; I couldn’t find really a way to get facebook into a reader. they used to let us do it. I bet you seen a link in facebook years ago that said add to RSS reader. they don’t do that now, very secure you cant follow someone using a reader. oh well.
but Hootsuite does cut down on the clutter and ADVERTISEMENTS The free version of Hootsuite is actually very handy when it comes to keeping up with Face book one of the exceptional things about hootsuite is that it remembers everyone, it doesn’t just have a post vanish after a day or so, in a way then it’s a log of all facebook posts. to me this is handy but I regress

I found the ideal rss reader, its called INOreader, the address is www.inoreader.com I don’t know why they don’t… you know make themselves more visible. True the design isn't perfect but it is the very best that I have found so far, the first thing I liked about this is its intuitive. really easy to just hit a button and know what is going to happen. add a webpage with just a click and you are on your way! and its very fast. no problems at all with load times, I can see the whole picture when it loads. there are tons of things, anyhow I didn’t want to write a book but try it really INOreader is worth a look, well unless you got a 4 year old wow, I would pay AOL if they would stop their Gestapo!

Just sayin'

shocker Moods

I am bipolar as you all know, I go thru the crazies and stop all associations with you or my family and whoever the heck you were and sort of shut down then… I am okay.

Talk about shame? I mean one day I slam the phone on you -- next day I am all chipper and lets hang out… and they call it a mood disorder. and still I don’t really know what that means..
But I think I am getting there or here? or however you see my paradigm, yeah okay so I got a shock

it was about coffee. I recently learned I love fresh ground French pressed coffee. it’s the hoot! so I made coffee oh about 9am. I suppose I do use an over-sized travel cup with a straw I can take on the road with me but that is nothing I on normal days drink two of these, makes 64 ounces and I record it in my hydration journal.
So I made this 32 ounce mug of fresh coffee

around 4:20 PM I realized I hadn't really touched it. all day I didn't drink coffee and what do I say to that? "I was not in the MOOD"
            Mood is like that.
it stops all normal process. Having coffee is a part of my process, it tells me I am in a real day and its part of my day. like showering like taking my insulin you don’t just stop doing life… but. what if you were not in the mood?"

What makes my Mood disorder such a disorder is the fact that IT rules me.
It says NO even if I said I would, even if I was all hyped up last night about it, for whatever needful planning I might have been doing… a Mood hits me.
I usually don’t even really know that cloud had me. there is little… actual indication of a mood. but afterwards? the only excuse I can give you. well me actually and the journal I keep is… a mood struck me.

But Moods can do more damage than just forgetting about coffee
its after 5 now so, I guess I will make decalf and try again.

Go screw yourself Mood! where is my bipolar meds?

I feel cheated

what can I do? who will defend me who even cares?

2 big business are billing me for stuff I feel they have no business doing.
I mean yeah its their privilege to place a stamp on any envelope, is it my right to ignore them?

First off Aspin Dental, oh my god my experience with them was horrific. they don’t tell you just how much pain they are putting you in they don’t explain why they want to charge you 6 grand to begin procedures, and now they after all is done are charging me 200 more, just because? wasn't the original $6,000 enough?

the second is Geico Insurance, the guy who was quoting me said that it would be smartest if I said yes now and gave him my debit card number, he would "lock in" the quote, start me up on insurance and if I changed my mind in the next week just give them a call and they will stop it…

I called I got an email for what they said "request to stop" not a confirmation, here I am on Mar 4th one day before it is supposed to come out and I get a bill. I tell you what if they take that money I will claim fraud and get them bad I kid you not. Pissed as hell.

In search of perfect porn – Jack Flanagan – The Kernel: "REPORTNO BUTTS ABOUT IT
IN SEARCH OF PERFECT PORN
Tumblr, long the king of porn, has been overthrown. A new generation of porn sites has arrived, including Pinsex – the ‘Pinterest for porn’.
JACK FLANAGAN
STAFF WRITER

THURSDAY, 19 DECEMBER 2013
In July 2013, David Karp posted on the Tumblr staff blog with a message updating users on the spam and NSFW filters on the new, Yahoo-owned, site. The third bullet reads:
“In an effort to discourage some not-so-nice people from using Tumblr as free hosting for spammy commercial porn sites, we started delisting this tiny subset of blogs from search engines like Google. […] If your blog contains anything too sexy for the average workplace, simply check “Flag this blog as NSFW” so people in Safe Mode can avoid it. Your blog will still be promoted in third-party search engines.”
What this means is: Tumblr can still be reached from the outside web for porn – if you type in “tumblr gay” into google, well, just look what comes up first – but inside, Tumblr porn-scouring is a much harder business."

R U Kidding me? sheesh, i have loved using tumblr to get my fix... alas i have found a site. sort of a Pinterest spin off for gay porn called pingay: http://www.pingay.com/en/whatispingay

500 bookmarks

Okay i easily have over 500 bookmarks. its clutter its a head ache.

I mean i find a site i like and something in me rises up and says i demand we don't loose this page, its a resource it is a sign of success, its bullshit.

what i do is stuff the site. i have tons of folders too but i don't keep up on it

So anyhow i tried out several ideas. first idea was to look into Google bookmarks
the trouble with this site is there is no easy way to import your bookmarks it was choppy at best. i did like that you can annotate and put in a personal description plus it had tags

skip ahead
there is a chrome extension called Neat bookmarks
What this extension does mainly is create an index to search all the 500+ bookmarks i have stored. its rather intuitive. plus it adds a new use to your omni box at the top type star (*) then space and you can search from there too. very cool i think everyone ought to have this

the highest rated tool was a paid site called DIIGO. it allows free users 20 pages. you basically do not bookmark a link instead it copies and archives the whole page for you. second it give you the ability to put sticky notes on these pages and a whole lot more arrows highlight you name it
but it costs and as a pirate super user i just sort of got sick, i wish i could afford it but no

The last tool i already had. i just didn't use it. its free for the most part but i do pay my 5 dollars a month to EVERNOTE  http://evernote.com/premium/
it takes a while to learn the system its not as intuitive as Diigo, but the web clipper tool has all the goodies that Diigo has. and there is a free version that really has a huge space you can use.
Evernote has tons of space to add notes to your clipped pages
you can clip a selection a page view or the whole page top to bottom there is highlights and arrows all sorts of fun stuff
finally once you have set up all this in clipping your page, the main window that files all your evernote entries lets you sort the bookmarks, search threw your bookmarks, tag each selection and you never have to worry about loosing the clips
I pay into evernote, for other reasons. true i love the application and especially that you can make huge voice notes (for sermons or lectures). it as well serves as a camera photo storage, and it has the "clearly" tool / extension which when you hit it will re write the page you are on to only show content. meaning that the adds and all the other crap vanishes. plus clearly can read the article to you. so yeah i think its worth having.

Anyhow in summery if you can afford it try Diigo because its easy to learn
But Evernote has a lot going for it

TorrentZap.com is not a place you would want to visit

oh i forgot to comment here on what i was wanting to comment to Paul Gil. there is one site called TorrentZap. any link you click on this site will download for you some sort of EXE file, this is more than suspicious i think they are attempting to either get us to agree to some bloat ware or tool bar or some virus. i say avoid this site totally

About.com the secret society

i found a pretty good article about the top torrent sites available by Paul Gil

he says over and over in this article to please contact him with any comments, however there is no link anywhere on the about.com site how to make a comment there is no email there is no form comment nothing. i did search all over even wikipedia there is nothing at all. this is bull shit

writers constipation ... again

sort of pisses me off that i got writers block
or constipation
or something

i start writing and feel good about it for about a page then i loose interest
is that crazy?

see when i write its like watching a movie. i am entertained by what might come next. but lately it feels like i am just rehashing storylines that i have used in the past and... its not as fun.

Evernote VS the world

do you know about evernote?
do you have trouble breathing

really its as important i think
how do i say this?

you know my office is full of papers
bullshit papers
oh its all important. bills, receipts, jottings of ideas. photos, clippings, it just piles up

the big trouble is that i loose them. its here somewhere i am certain but the stress of looking for that one item is enough to make you pull your hair out. literally

what has to change is our attitude on going paperless. most copiers now days have scanner, so take that paper and scan it in.

the scan can take a photo or snapshot of any paper you got. it creates a pdf file on your computer. then you take that file and drag and drop it into evernote. and it stays there forever.

then lets say you need that item again you can actually search for it in evernote. it was a pdf now every stinking word in that pdf can be searched for.

so then toss all that paper away and the item now is put into the eternal infernal filing cabinet where you never have to get stressed over in finding it again,

Evernote is free for the most part. there are perks to going VIP that i wont talk about much here. but you do get more space to use.

one use i got for evernote is recording sermons or speeches. there is an app you can use on your cell phone and one of the uses is a voice recording. you can tape an hours lecture and it saves up in the web how cool is that?

it was rather funny the other day i was at office Depot and the conversation with a clerk had to do with did he have ever note i was in shock he never heard of it. really get into the groove there is no better system i have found... get ever note today
