FREE IS ALWAYS A GOOD PRICE

I am now using “open office writer” which is a free “open source” alternative to paying $200 for Ms Office. I have office 97 on CD which I likely will install soon. However, my new computers CD / DVD player is broken and I am waiting on a call back from customer support to see what I need to do to get a replacement.
The program, O.O.W. Seems rather intuitive and much like MSWord. Perhaps I will stick to it.

HELLO HELLO GOODBYE

New Years Eve 2008 I try to make calls to cousin Melody and Old friend Jeremiah Wulf. Neither was answering, left messages to call me back. Too busy I suppose, sad. I miss them both and now feel rather lonely that they couldn't be available this holiday.

RIGHT ON “COMCAST”

Got Comcast installed today (2008-12-31). Seems like an ideal solution to most my tech needs. First off my phone, the cost is only $39 and includes free long distance and every bell and whistle imaginable for phone service. Internet with a speed test of 22Mb download. And of course cable with Digital Recording. Very pleased with service so far. And thank you to Shawn who did the install. I owe them a whopping $165 for the start up then the cost drops to $114 plus $9 a month starting February 1st.

Kick a dead box.

My desktop pc is on its last leg. First the cd quit working, now the scan disk wont complete due to surface errors / damages. Downloads as small as 3 megs wont save to disk anymore though I have over a gig free space. Websites fail to load, flash animations are choppy at best. Tried and true winamp causes a system crash. A mail client I previewed fails to uninstall.

dead-computer Computer fried

Identity theft.

Got a call from visa fraud detection. I had made some heafty charges this week on my visa debit card and they wanted to go over the amounts. I verified all but a tiny $1.27 charge that I could not have made I was in a hotel and no where nears making a charge. They assured me that this happens all the time, people have ways of getting card numbers. So here we are at the shopping high of the year and my card has been canceled. What a drag. But good to know that visa looks out for us.

Rasin of death / first choke, no joke

Today I inhailied a rasin. I normally take handfulls of rasins at a time and somehow I breathed during the input process and went into a fit of coughing that lasted over half and hour. Good god, heard of steak blocking the air way but not a tiny rasin. Oh well, life is precious.

Merry Christmas to me

Ordered a computer from compusa this week. Costs less than $250 and includes windows vista and many bells and whistles to bring me up to date. I especially like the 260gig hard drive. Expect the pc next week. Will wrtie about it when it comes.
